The General Officer-in-Charge of WESTMINCOM, AFP

Brigadier General Arturo G Rojas PN(M) is the Acting Commander and the concurrent Deputy Commander for External Defense Operations of the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom).

BGen Rojas was born on 28 May 1968 in Koronadal City. Following his graduation from De La Salle Zobel in 1986, he entered the Philippine Military Academy and graduated on 18 February 1990.

After graduation, he joined the Philippine Marine Corps. His early career was spent with MBLT-3, MBLT-9, and the 61st Marine Force Reconnaissance Company. He specialized in special operations during this period and was subsequently deployed to the provinces of Sulu, Bulacan, Cotabato City, Quezon, Basilan, Zamboanga, and Kalinga-apayao.

To hone his competencies, he took up various courses and trainings such as the Basic Airborne Course, Jumpmaster’s Course, Military Scuba Course, Scout Ranger Course, Intelligence Officer Basic Course, Military Intelligence Collection Course, Explosive Ordnance Reconnaissance Agent Course, Sure-shock Urban Warfare Course, Jungle Environment Survival Training (JEST), Force Reconnaissance Orientation Course, Officers Psyops Course, among others.

Following the completion of his Company Commander’s Billet in 1997, he spent 3 years with the Department of National Defense (DND) as Security Officer and Aide-de-Camp to Secretary Fortunato Abad and Secretary Orlando Mercado. After his stint at DND, he was deployed to the UN Transitional Authority in East Timor (UNTAET) in 2000.

BGen Rojas was assigned to the following units/offices: the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Education and Training, J8, as Assistant Chief, Plans, and Policy Division (2001); Marine Corps Training Center as Operations Officer (2005); MBLT-2 as Operations Officer (2006) and Executive Officer (2007); Force Reconnaissance Battalion as Executive Officer (2007) and its Commanding Officer (2009-10); Office Assistant Chief of Naval Staff for Plans, N5 as Deputy (2011); Fleet-Marine Ready Force (FMRF) as Chief of Staff (2013); Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans and Programs, MC-5 as Chief (2013-15); Marine Special Operations Group as Commander (2014-16); 2nd Marine Brigade as Deputy Commander (2016-17); Center for Naval Leadership and Excellence as Director (2017-19); 4th Marine Bde (PROV) as Commander (2019); and 2nd Marine Brigade as Commander (2020-21).

BGen Rojas holds two masters degrees: Master of Science Degree in Defense Analysis (Special Operation/Low-intensity Conflict) Curriculum from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, USA (2004) and the Master in Public Management major in Department and Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) (2011). He also attended the 12th Executive Course in National Security (2008), Command and General Staff Course (2011), and the Advanced Security Cooperation ASC/8-1 at the DKI-APCSS in Honolulu, Hawaii (2018).

BGen Rojas has earned several awards and decorations through the years: He has (4) Distinguished Service Stars, Distinguished Service Medal, Outstanding Achievement Medal, Gold Cross Medal, (2) Distinguished Navy Cross, Bronze Cross Medal, and Military Merit Medals, among others.

He is happily married to Ms Elmina Tagle of Imus, Cavite and they are blessed with three wonderful children, named; Arturo IV, Alfonso, and Alessandra.
