Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – August 31, 2022
After his assumption as the 58th Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro began his circuit by visiting the Western Mindanao Command on August 31, 2022.
WestMinCom Chief Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., together with the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resources welcomed Lt. Gen. Bacarro with battalion-sized military honors at the command’s Parade Ground at Camp Navarro, Calarian, this city.
Lt. Gen. Bacarro presided over the command conference held at the WMC Conference Room where he gave his guidance and the directive of the Commander-in-Chief. Physically present during the conference were Naval Forces Western Mindanao Commander Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci, Jr., Tactical Operations Wing Western Mindanao Commander Brig. Gen. Dennis Estrella, WestMinCom’s Deputy Commander for External Defense Operations Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Joint Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. Randolph Rojas, Chief of Unified Command Staff Col. Elmer Suderio, and the Unified Command Staff. The commanders of the joint task forces, brigades, and battalions under the command and control of WestMinCom attended the conference through video teleconferencing.
During the conference, the WestMinCom Commander presented to the Chief of Staff a briefing on the recent accomplishment and current thrusts of the command. Lt. Gen. Bacarro commended Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. and the entire Team WestMinCom for the numerous accomplishments especially the dismantling of the guerilla fronts of the communist terrorist group.
Also, Lt. Gen. Bacarro conferred medals to the army and marine officers and soldiers recognized by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia. The Medal of Dharma Defense is awarded by the Indonesian Republic to foreign military or individuals who are instrumental in enhancing the bilateral cooperation and conduct of activities related to defense and security. Awarded were Col. Andrew Bacala, Jr., Lt. Col. Ashley Nastor, Staff Sergeant Marvin Castillo, Staff Sergeant Redan Batiller, Sergeant Meynard Yeso, and Corporal Elouie Testado.
The AFP Chief of Staff also took time to personally engage with the troops to boost further their morale. In his message, Lt. Gen. Bacarro expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the efforts exerted by the men and women of the WestMinCom and encouraged them to exert more effort for he believes that collective efforts to “Do common things uncommonly well” shall undoubtedly propel the AFP toward holistic organizational transformation.
Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. said, “We are pleased because WestMinCom is first in his itinerary and we welcome him back to his home during his younger years in the military service”.
Lt. Gen. Bacarro and Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. are both members of the Philippine Military Academy “Maringal” Class of 1988.
