Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – November 17, 2022
After more than three years in the province of Sulu, the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion led by Lt. Col. Eugenio Baquiran was redeployed on November 17, 2022 from Joint Task Force Sulu to Joint Task Force Basilan. The battalion’s transfer to Basilan was long overdue as replacement of 68th Infantry Battalion which was redeployed to Mindoro last January 2022.
A send-off ceremony was accorded to the 5SRB in recognition of their invaluable service rendered during their deployment in Sulu which contributed to the numerous feats of JTF Sulu. Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, Commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, spearheaded the ceremony held at 5RB headquarters at Sitio Palan, Barangay Mampalam, Talipao, Sulu on November 16, 2022. Maj. Gen. Patrimonio expressed his gratitude to the 5SRB for their invaluable contribution to the accomplishment of JTF Sulu’s mission.

“I enjoin the 5SRB troopers to maintain their grit as they embark on a new journey and face new challenges in a new operational environment. The Rangers will fill-in the vacuum left by 68IB in order to keep the momentum of the improving security condition in Basilan. I urge the 5SRB to be a key member of Team Basilan as they always have been and maintain the highest standard of soldiery as expected of the Scout Rangers.” Marine Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Acting Commander of Western Mindanao Command said.
