Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – September 7, 2022

Military personnel under the Joint Task Force Basilan recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) in Barangay Seronggon, Hadji Mohammad Ajul, Basilan Province past noon on September 6, 2022.

Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, Commander of Joint Task Force Basilan said that the components of the IED include two rounds of rocket-propelled grenade, high explosives; one round of 40mm high explosive grenade launcher; four non-electric blasting caps; commercial detonating cord; and commercial time fuse.

A reliable source relayed that the IED components were fabricated in an abandoned house at Sitio Marang-Marang, Tuburan Proper, Hadji Mohammad Ajul by a certain Tawakal Bayali, a.k.a. Jaber, and his companion, a.k.a. Mudzfal, who are members of the Abu Sayyaf Group under subleader Pasil Bayali, a.k.a. Kerah.

The 39th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team immediately proceeded to the location for the safe extraction of the recovered item and other IED components. Operating troops continued to scour the area.

Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr., Commander of the Western Mindanao Command, commended the troops of Joint Task Force Basilan for preventing the ASG from sowing terror in the peaceful communities of Hadji Mohammad Ajul.

“I also attribute this accomplishment to the concerned citizen who relayed the information to our troops. I, therefore, urge everyone to remain vigilant and cooperative. Let us continue to do our share in preventing our heartless enemies from executing their terroristic activities,” Lt. Gen. Rosario, Jr. added.
