Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – September 26, 2022

Troops of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi together with the 3rd Boat Attack Division successfully rescued nine passengers and three crew members of a distressed seacraft in Pababag Island, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi on September 25, 2022.

The rescued passengers were identified as Roaida Sabdani, 63, female; Jhuddin Sabdani, 42, male; Marry Joy Boncales Sabdani, 38, female; Shamarah Sabdani, 4, female; Ralph Vincent Sabdani, 18, male; Kayle D Sabdani, 20, male; Amy Burugan, 27, female; Sitti Mariam Tandiko, 22, female; and Bernie Giray Ambay, 34, male, all of Tubig Indangan, Simunul, Tawi-Tawi but are currently residing in the Visayas. The rescued crew members include Romulo Colecio, 33, male; Jhuddin Mohammadalah, 23, male; and Gordo Mali, 40, male, also from Tubig Indangan.

According to the passengers, they visited their relatives in Simunul Island and they were on their way to Bongao to take their flight back to Cebu when the motor launch (M/L Suratulya) encountered engine trouble and drifted to the back of Pababag Island.

Brig. Gen. Romeo Racadio, Commander of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi, commended the troops for the immediate action and said, “The quick response of both units on the distress call from M/L Suratulya paved the way for the safe and successful rescue of the passengers and crew of the water vessel.”

All rescued passengers and crew members were given medical assistance after which they were ferried to their destinations while the water vessel was left ashore and will be subjected to repair once the weather improves.

Western Mindanao Command Chief, Lt. Gen. Alfredo Rosario, Jr. lauded the troops of Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi for their watchfulness. “I commend our troops for extending immediate assistance to the passengers of the distressed motor launch. This exemplifies that the armed forces are always ready to respond to whatever situation just to ensure the safety of the citizens.”
