Three Abu Sayyaf Group members surrendered to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao on October 17, 2022.
The Naval Forces Western Mindanao, together with the Joint Task Forces Basilan successfully facilitated the surrender of Basilan-Based ASG members identified as alias Abu Dijana, alias Madz, and alias Jay, all under the late Isnilon Hapilon and residents of Lantawan, Basilan Province.
They handed over their firearms at the Headquarters Naval Forces Western Mindanao in Bagong Calarian, Zamboanga City. Surrendered firearms include one M16A1 rifle with magazine and 29 rounds of ammunition; one M14 rifle with scope, bi-pod, and two rounds of ammunition; and one Garand rifle with two magazines and 25 rounds of ammunition.
The former violent extremists were presented to Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci, Jr., Commander, Naval Forces Western Mindanao at Headquarters, Naval Forces Western Mindanao after which they underwent medical check-up at Camp Navarro General Hospital (CNGH). They were subsequently turned over to the Joint Task Force Basilan for proper documentation and inclusion in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Acting Commander of Western Mindanao Command lauds the navy and army forces for this remarkable accomplishment.
"I congratulate the former ASG members for making the right decision. Rest assured that we will assist them in their reintegration to mainstream society," Brig. Gen. Rojas stated.
