Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – November 7, 2022

In the continuing peace efforts of the armed forces in Central Mindanao, soldiers of the 33rd Infantry Battalion encountered an undetermined number of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters-Karialan Faction (BIFF-KF) members in Barangay Kuloy, Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao on November 5, 2022.

According to Maj. Gen. Roy Galido, Commander of Joint Task Force Central, the firefight happened when an identified Payong-Payong traversing Sitio Capok, Barangay Timbangan-Barangay Kuloy road toward Barangay Dapiawan, Datu Saudi Ampatuan suddenly stopped while approaching a checkpoint. When the military troops were about to conduct the inspection, the passengers promptly disembarked the tricycle and fired upon the approaching soldiers. This prompted the government forces to retaliate.

The brief armed confrontation resulted in the deaths of two BIFF-KF members and the recovery of one cal. 45 pistol with magazine and three live ammunition. No casualty was reported on the government side.

“We will not stop until we neutralize all the remaining terrorists in our area of operation. Our soldiers are working so hard and risking their lives to attain peace in our communities, that is why I encourage everyone to help us enlighten the minds of those who are still lured by false ideologies. Let us continue to walk the path for peace in the Mindanao region,” Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Acting Commander of Western Mindanao Command said.
