Ankun was a follower of the late ASG sub-leader Radzmil Jannatul, Jikiri was under Sub-leader Pasil Bayali, while Radjuli was with the late ASG leader Isnilon Hapilon.
The former violent extremists surrendered their firearms including one M16A1 Elisco rifle, one M16 rifle, two M16 short magazines, and 21 rounds of 5.56 ammunition. They were then presented to Naval Forces Western Mindanao Commander, Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci, Jr. at the unit headquarters based at Naval Station Romulo Espaldon, Calarian, this city.
Rear Admiral Adaci said that the three were involved in several hostilities against the government forces in Basilan, particularly in the municipalities of Sumisip, Tipo-Tipo, and Al-Barka. “Their surrender contributes to the continuous decline of the ASG’s strength.”
The former violent extremists underwent a medical check-up at Camp Navarro General Hospital (CNGH) after which they were turned over to the Joint Task Force-Basilan for proper documentation and possible inclusion in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.
“First, let me commend both our operating forces from the Naval Forces Western Mindanao led by Rear Admiral Jun Adaci PN and the JTF Basilan led by Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway PA for this accomplishment. This is the result of the well-Integrated civil and military campaign and strategy. Our local government units and chief executives work hand in hand with well-synchronized programs for the local populace and constituents. The provincial government of Basilan is one of the multi-awarded LGUs where good governance thrives, thus, the basic services for the people are provided. The increase in development programs and economic activities has improved the security environment. The disciplined and professional military and law enforcement forces directly contributed to the defeat of the threat groups in the province. Basilan has become a very good case success story in counterinsurgency and counterterrorism. And so, I congratulate Team Basilan for your outstanding service, untiring dedication, and unyielding commitment to the mission,” Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Acting Commander of Western Mindanao Command said.
