Camp Navarro, Calarian, Zamboanga City – November 7, 2022
Seven Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf Group remnants turned over their firearms to the troops of Joint Task Force Sulu in Luuk town, Sulu on November 4, 2022.
According to JTF Sulu Commander, Maj. Gen. Ignatius Patrimonio, the surrender of the former violent extremists was made possible through the intensified intelligence operations of the different intelligence units and the lethal and non-lethal operations of the 1102nd Infantry Brigade.
The seven surrendered personalities handed over one M16A1 rifle, two Carbine rifles, three M1 Garand, and one caliber 38 pistol. They were presented to Brig. Gen. Giovanni Franza, Commander of the 1102Bde at the unit headquarters in Barangay Tandu Bato, Luuk.
The former ASG members revealed that due to their group’s weakened manpower and capability, they just have to run and hide from the government forces. They grew tired, thus, they surrendered.
Since January this year, a total of 174 personalities of the ASG have surrendered to the armed forces in Sulu. Of the number, 136 were regular members and 38 were supporters.
“We are very thankful to our partners and stakeholders who never get tired of helping us resolve the security concerns in our area of operations. Rest assured that with the significant breakthroughs that we have achieved, your armed forces will be more than motivated to work hard to get the remaining terrorists who are still out there, afraid and confused,” WestMinCom Commander, Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas expressed.
